Tubers come in all shapes and sizes. Some varieties produce smaller tubers such as Dark Spirit and Caramel Antique. Tuber shape and size (as long as they have an active eye and a solid body) do not hinder their growth or plant performance. We plant our tubers in late May/early June as we’re in a colder zone (we currently do not have a high tunnel to raise them early), and lift our tubers in October (sometime in early November, weather depending), therefore, some of our tubers may be smaller in size. However, they are all viable upon sending out. In warmer climate (such as West/South), growers are able to put their tubers in the ground earlier and lifting them later, therefore, their tubers may be bigger due to being in the ground longer. However, bigger tubers do not guarantee better performance. They are prone to rot just the same. A mother tuber may rot (some don’t) after roots systems are established. Some may not even make it that far and may rot prior to the plant sprouting above ground as a result of the not-so-optimal “growing conditions”. We are dealing with a “live” or perishable product, so nothing is 100% guarantee as a result.

SHIPPING

After 2022 shipping season, we no longer offer combined shipping. We do not have sufficient staffing for this task. Moreover, combined shipping will delay orders being sent out timely. It is under our discretion to initiate combined orders when necessary. We may compensate you for this, however, we will not be able to reduce shipping charges.

Please assure that your mailing address is correct upon placing your order. We’re not responsible for orders that are shipping to the incorrect address, of which you provide upon placing your order. The cost of intercepting a package is around $17.00. You may contact the USPS directly to resolve this issue if it occurs. If an incorrect address occurs, you may correct this PRIOR to your order being shipped out by contacting us directly. Please make sure we respond to this request, if we don’t, that means we are not aware of the change, therefore, we are not liable.

Shipping Costs: All tubers are shipped via USPS. We only ship within the U.S.A (including Alaska and Hawaii). No international shipping at this point.

1-5 Tubers- $11.00. 6-15 Tubers $18.00. 16-25 Tubers $25.00. 26-35 Tubers- $30. 36+ (up to 60) Tubers- $45.00.

We do offer On-Site PICK UPS for locals, however, you are responsible to check your email for any communication sent out re: pick up date and time (typically in May). We do not have adequate staffing or time to entertain other options. Shipping cost will be refunded to you after you pick up your orders as per your assigned date/time. If you fail to show up, the paid shipping cost refund will be under our discretion as our time are severely limited.

Shipping Window: We usually ship tubers to the West and South regions in April (Some years, we may be able to ship tubers out in late March, weather permitting of course). We then proceed to mid and central regions, followed by the North-East. If you’re in the NE, you will receive your tubers no later than mid-May. Moreover, we make every effort to ship tubers out in the order it’s received. Please note, we will not send tubers out unless an eye is detected—therefore, we cannot offer early shipping.

TUBERS ARRIVAL & REFUND POLICY

Upon receipt of your tubers, make sure you inspect them and contact us if anything is damaged or defective. We guarantee all our tubers are viable and will arrive with at least one active eye. All tubers are labeled with variety name and marked with an arrow to where the eye(s)/sprout(s) are located. You have 5 days from the date of your tubers arrival to communicate with us any issues mentioned above. Photos of issues are highly encouraged to help us identify the root causes and to respond accordingly. Please include your order number and kindly state your order(s) issues directly to madelynsfloral@gmail.com . If we’re unable to replace the same variety for the following growing season (once your claim is validated), you will be given a refund credit for future purchase(s).

We guarantee that our tubers are homegrown (they’re not imported), true to variety name (to the best of our knowledge), have at least one active eye and is viable when sending out. However, we are not liable for your growing conditions, poor care/negligence and/or storage issues (after your tubers are received or delivered), pests (including rodent damage), plants performance (failure to grow), and rot after planting (including tuber body or crown). If for some reason, the tubers you order are not true to variety, please communicate with us by the third week of September, we will give you a credit refund if a replacement cannot be fulfilled for the following growing season. Please note that Shipping Cost for your order is non-refundable. Our guarantee is honored for the current growing season only.

TUBER CARE (PRE-PLANTING):

Upon receipt of your tubers, store them in a cool dark area with good humidity (temperature range should be around 45-50*F) until you’re ready to plant them in the field/garden. Please note that if your storage condition is not optimal, your tubers will shrivel.

Plant your dahlia tubers after your last frost (for WNY, it’s usually around Memorial weekend). Assure that your ground temperatures is around 60 degrees. Please note that when the soil are too wet, it will result in rot. Extreme high temperatures also result in rot. Dahlias like full sun, therefore, at least 8 hours of direct sunlight are recommended. Choose your planting area accordingly.

Ideally, dahlia tuber spacing should be between 12”-18”. A 4”-6” planting depth and horizontal planting are recommended. The recommended planting depth protects tubers from being exposed to the harsh fluctuations in temperatures, thus, minimize risks of rot. Please do not water until you see the plants have sprout above the soil surface with at least 1 set of true leaves. Until roots system is developed, rot will occur and potentially, the plant will perish (i.e. if roots have not been properly developed).

Corralling and Staking are recommended for taller varieties. This help prevent breakage and wind damage in the fall.
